24x30 Mixed Media (Acrylic, Sticks, Wire, Wax) on wood board
My heart sank when I first read an article by Patty Bode entitled The Circulatory System of Oil Contamination, Visual Culture, and Amazon Indigenous Life in Globalization Art and Education, Delacruz, 2009.  For the first time I was learning about the effects of oil contamination left behind by Texaco after 30 years of drilling and pumping oil form the lands of the Amazon.  That article was the spark that motivated me to do further research about this corporate made environmental disaster.  This artwork is the result of my research and gut response to what I learned from investigating the causes and effects of oil contamination in the Amazon.
